Regional sales manager Stephen R Orgain is running in the November general election to represent Area 2 on the Livermore school board.
He will face off against finance consultant Tara Boyce, a district parent who ran unsuccessfully for an at-large seat during the 2024 election cycle.
The winner of the two-person race Nov. 3 is poised to represent central Livermore on the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School Districts Board of Education into 2030. As the district’s first by-trustee area election, there are no incumbents in the election for Area 2.
“It’s evident that politics and personal agendas have infiltrated our board,” Orgain told Pleasanton in an email interview. “As a Businessman, I intend to bring a fiscal perspective commensurate with healthy business practices.”
As a parent of two district students, Orgain said he decided to run for school board from an obligation to “give back”.
Among the tenants inspiring his bid for election, Orgain said, “You have no right to complain if you’re not willing to participate.”
As for his perspective on the role of trustees, Orgain said they must disclose expenditures and required budget cuts to represent their constituents.
Budgets should be developed based on available funds, not a potential wishlist, he added.
Orgain also expressed support for teachers being paid wages that allow them to live in the communities where they work.
Outside of the boardroom, Orgain said, “I believe that a healthy student body starts at home.”
He currently manages a sales division, encompassing six western states and western Canada, for the world’s largest automotive manufacturer.
Throughout his career, he has worked in the private and public sectors and has experience managing company divisions with revenues of over $150 million annually, he said.
“We’ve had too much instability and turnover to be successful,” Orgain said. “The board has chosen Dr. Limoges as Livermore’s Champion; if I’m elected, it’s my job to help him be successful and a member of this community for years to come.”
