Granada-Livermore Baseball’s run at the hometown Little League Intermediate 50/70 Baseball World Series came to an end Sunday night with an 11-4 loss to South Korea in the championship game at Max Baer Park.
Representing the Asia-Pacific Region, West Seoul A Little League got off to a strong offensive start – scoring in each of the first four innings, 10 runs total during the stretch – and never looked back.
Cheered on by an understandably partisan crowd on the warm summer evening in their hometown, Granada-Livermore pulled within 10-4 in the fifth inning but couldn’t get over the hump. South Korea tacked on a final insurance run in the sixth inning before sealing the championship in the top of the seventh.
The West Region representative, Granada-Livermore reached the World Series title game by winning the United States bracket with a 3-0 record overall and a 5-3 victory in the national final Saturday evening over Tri-Valley rival Bollinger Canyon Little League of San Ramon – the host California District 57 rep in the tournament.
Unbeaten South Korea claimed the international bracket with a 13-8 win over Puerto Rico on Saturday afternoon.
