Graduation events
Graduation season has arrived in the Tri-Valley as schools across the region get set to send off their graduating seniors over the next week, starting with Pleasanton Unified School District’s three high schools this Friday (May 29).
The ceremonies in Pleasanton will kick off with Village High School’s graduation taking place at the Firehouse Arts Center at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Then, starting at 5 p.m., Foothill High School will host its graduation ceremony, which will then be followed by Amador Valley High School’s graduation at 7 p.m. — both will take place at their respective school fields.
Over in Livermore, Granada High School is scheduled to host its graduation ceremony starting at 5 p.m. on Friday (May 29) at the campus’ football field. Beginning at the same time on Friday, Livermore High School is set to host its ceremony at the LHS football field.
Next week, Dublin High School will celebrate its graduating seniors on Wednesday, June 3, starting at 4:30 at the campus’ stadium. The day before, June 2, Valley High School — Dublin’s continuation school — will hold its graduation ceremony inside Dublin High School’s Performing Arts Center starting at 5 p.m.
San Ramon Valley Unified School District will close this year’s Tri-Valley graduation ceremonies with all four high schools — California High School, Dougherty Valley High School, Monte Vista High School and San Ramon Valley High School — hosting their graduations next Friday, June 5. Each of the ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. and take place at each of the respective high school stadiums.
DUI checkpoint
Dublin Police Services will be holding a driving under the influence and driver’s license checkpoint this Friday (May 29) from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the city.
According to a press release from the police agency, officers will be actively monitoring the checkpoint throughout the night in order to keep an eye out for any and all impaired drivers.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Dublin Police Capt. Miguel Campos stated. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety for all.”
FuelFest at fairgrounds
FuelFest, an immersive car show, is set to return to the Alameda County Fairgrounds this Saturday (May 30) for a day filled with live music, racing and iconic cars.
According to the FuelFest website, this year’s event will also feature special guest appearances, professional drivers, cars featured in movies and interactive sponsor exhibits.
“FuelFest Bay Area features a complete fairground takeover with a massive car show, concert, live action drifting with fan thrill rides, themed car show zones, awards, special guests appearances and more!” the Eventbrite description reads.

Denim & Diamonds
Livermore Downtown Inc. is set to host a western-themed dining and shopping experience next Wednesday (June 3) as part of a fundraiser benefiting the nonprofit organization.
Dubbed Denim & Diamonds, the event features promotions, specials and “in-store experiences” at businesses throughout the city’s downtown, the LDI website states.
As for food and drink, LDI encourages attendees to reserve tables from a selection of over a dozen downtown restaurants and bars. A fee of $10 per person benefits LDI in its mission to support businesses downtown Livermore.
Participating venues include First Street Ale House, Sauced BBQ & Spirits, Simply Fondue, The Fat Pigeon, Bruno’s Italian Cuisine and Strizzi’s.
Attendees are encouraged to wear denim, boots and western hats. Reservations are open for even-numbered groups of two to 10 people from 5:30-7 p.m. and 7:30-9 p.m. Wednesday.
While reservations are recommended, downtown visitors on Wednesday evening are welcome to benefit from shopping specials and dine at non-participating restaurants.
Simultaneous piano recital
Audiences in Los Angeles and the Bay Area will have the opportunity to take part in the first ever simultaneous Steinway Spirio piano recital, which will link both regions in real time this Saturday (May 30).
According to Irina Brener, a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and a piano instructor based in Pleasanton who is partnering with Steinway & Sons Piano Galleries to put together the event, the recital will bridge “two iconic venues, allowing audiences in Walnut Creek and Beverly Hills to witness the same live performances as they unfold”.
“Utilizing the Steinway Spirio — the world’s finest high-resolution player piano system — the event captures every nuance of the artists’ touch with breathtaking fidelity, merging classical tradition with cutting-edge innovation,” Brener stated in a press release.
The free show, which starts at 1 p.m. and takes place at the Steinway Piano Gallery in Walnut Creek, will feature performances from Brener and her students, as well as other local and international competition winners.
