Longtime physician Narayan Tadimeti is running for Livermore City Council in the November general election to represent the northeast portion of the city.
He will face off Nov. 3 against incumbent Councilmember Ben Barrientos in the two-person race for District 2.
Tadimeti intends to bring a practical approach to public office in pursuit of his five priorities: “smart growth” and infrastructure, attainable housing, community safety and readiness as well as fiscal responsibility, according to his campaign website.
“I believe Livermore, CA is ready for a new chapter — one where the issues that matter most to our community are treated as genuine priorities, not afterthoughts,” Tadimeti wrote. “Where every resident has a voice and a stake in our shared future.”
Having lived with his family in Livermore for over seven years, Tadimeti said he cherishes the city’s high quality of life, vibrancy and its strong sense of community, he wrote on his campaign website.
“As a father of two, including a child with developmental disabilities, and through my wife’s long-standing work with Special Needs In My City, our family has seen firsthand how important it is to have a community that is safe, inclusive, and supportive of all residents,” he wrote.
Special Needs In My City is a network that supports people with developmental disabilities.
To Tadimeti, his focus on smart growth and infrastructure means ensuring roadways, utilities and services keep pace with development, he wrote. Meanwhile, he seeks to maintain open spaces, vineyards and neighborhood character.
Tadimeti said he also intends to support expanded affordable housing options in “appropriate locations” for groups such as young families, workers and seniors.
On safety, Tadimeti is a proponent of emergency preparedness including resilience to wildfire and modern threats to infrastructure, according to his campaign website.
“I am running for City Council to deliver thoughtful, commonsense solutions to our community’s most pressing challenges,” he wrote.
As a medical practitioner for over 30 years, Tadimeti said he has developed skills for application on the dais.
“Practicing medicine has taught me to listen carefully, remain calm under pressure, evaluate complicated information objectively, and make thoughtful decisions even when the stakes are high,” he said on his campaign website.
“I will bring that same approach to City Council: listening to residents, asking the tough questions, understanding the facts, considering the long-term impact of decisions, and working toward practical solutions that serve Livermore today, while preparing our community for tomorrow,” he wrote.
Tadimeti is a board-certified physician in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine and he is taking a break from active practice, he told Livermore Vine.
“I want to bring a physician’s discipline, thoughtful decision-making, and practical leadership to Livermore government”, he wrote.
