Livermore City Councilmember Ben Barrientos holds a 1,500 vote lead over challenger Narayan Tadimeti in the race for District 2, but neither candidate was ready to call the election Wednesday as the county continues to count mail-in, provisional and conditional ballots.

Barrientos had received 69.3% support, or 2,691 votes, as of about 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Alameda County Registrar of Voters. Physician Tadimeti trailed with 30.7% support, or 1,190 votes.

The election for District 2 was the only contested Livermore council race on the Nov. 3 ballot. The winner will serve a four-year term representing northeast Livermore.

Barrientos said he is waiting for more results to come in before calling the election.

“I’m not sure how close it is to the final count,” he said.

Tadimeti on Wednesday said he is waiting for all votes to be counted.

Countywide voter turnout is at about 32%, with 314,951 ballots counted as of 2 a.m. Wednesday. The county has 985,123 registered voters.

The county is expected to update vote totals this week, but a worker in the registrar’s office was not able to provide a specific date as of Wednesday afternoon.
