The Livermore school board is poised at Tuesday’s regular meeting to consider approving an employment contract for acting superintendent Michelle Pechette to serve in the temporary role through the end of June.

Formerly working as the assistant superintendent of educational services, Pechette was appointed to the district’s helm with unanimous approval Feb. 10 by the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District Board of Education, just four days after Torie Gibson left office via mutual separation agreement.

“Mrs. Pechette has provided stable and effective leadership to the District,” according to the meeting agenda.

Although Pechette would “assume the full duties and responsibilities of the Superintendent,” she would remain employed as an assistant superintendent and would return to the position’s duties exclusively when the agreement concluded.

If approved by the board, Pechette would receive daily compensation of $396.39 in addition to her annual salary of $262,795, per her current employment agreement as an assistant superintendent.

Under the Education Code, the acting superintendent shall not be reelected or reemployed in the position after the employment term expires.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Board President Steven Drouin is set to present an update on the permanent superintendent search, according to the agenda.

Drouin is on a two-person ad hoc committee with trustee Christiaan VandenHeuvel that is responsible for the process of finding superintendent candidates in collaboration with the Alameda County Office of Education.

The board is scheduled to begin its closed session meeting at 5 p.m., followed by the regular board meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (April 21). The full agenda is available here.

*The board is poised to discuss and cast its vote in a run-off election for Subregion 7-B of the California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly.

Aiming to represent Alameda County, the subregion candidates are Elise Lee of Emery Unified School District and Dublin Unified School District Board Trustee Gabi Blackman.

The winning candidate is slated to serve a two-year term effective April 1, 2026 through March 31, 2028.

The run-off election is required due to a tie-vote in Subregion 7-B, composed of 10 seats including those filled by VandenHeuvel and Pleasanton Unified School District Board Trustee Charlie Jones.

*Also on tap is a proposal by the teachers’ union to reopen employment contract articles “Definitions” and “Transfers” for 2026-2027 negotiations.

The articles are “non-economic initial proposals,” according to a letter sent to Pechette by Livermore Education Association President Aimee Thompson.

The 2026-2027 reopener negotiations are set to begin this fall.
