The Livermore Planning Commission is set to consider Tuesday whether the sale of an approximately 41-acre property to the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District for preservation is consistent with the city’s General Plan.

The land in question is the Quint property, located near LARPD’s Garaventa Wetlands Preserve in north Livermore between Vasco and Laughlin roads west of Bluffs Drive, according to a staff report prepared by Livermore associate planner Kam Purewal.

It is undeveloped fallow land with seasonal wetlands, annual grasslands and is considered to have scenic qualities, significant biological value and non-motorized recreational value.

Authorized for purchase in 2024 by the Livermore City Council, costing $1.6 million, city staff was directed to consider a partnership with LARPD after the city acquired the land.

Staff from both agencies have agreed to the terms of transferring ownership pending authorization by the City Council and LARPD Board of Directors, according to Purewal. Terms of the sale have not yet been disclosed publicly.

“Consolidating ownership under LARPD will assist with managing the property’s biological values and protecting visual/scenic qualities, assist with monitoring the property for routine maintenance and supports the city’s and LARPD’s future goals for expanding passive recreational opportunities,” the staff report states.

If the disposition and transfer of Quint property to LARPD is found to be consistent with the General Plan, a procedural step required of the commission, city staff would recommend the council to authorize the execution of a memorandum of understanding and a purchase and sale agreement.

The Livermore Planning Commission meeting Tuesday (Feb. 17) is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center Meeting Hall, 1016 S. Livermore Ave. The agenda is available here.

In other business, the commission is poised to nominate and select this year’s chairperson and vice chairperson. Currently in place are Chair Yolanda Fintschenko and Vice Chair Tracy Kronzak.
