Officials with Dublin-based Patelco Credit Union were continuing to work with cybersecurity experts Monday to address a security incident announced Saturday, leading to a suspension of a majority of banking services for its more than 450,000 members.

The outage began Saturday, with Patelco announcing on X, formerly Twitter, that its systems were “currently unavailable” and assuring customers that it would be resolved “as soon as possible.” On Sunday, officials shared additional details on social media and with customers about the security incident that caused the outage.

“Our teams are working around the clock with top-tier cybersecurity experts to assess the situation and to restore service to you,” Patelco officials said in a social media post Sunday. “Unfortunately, we are unable to provide an ETA on when those systems will be running as expected.”

Electronic banking services including transfers, payments, direct deposits, and balance inquiries continued to be unavailable through Monday afternoon, while officials warned customers Sunday evening to expect delays and increased wait times for in-person banking services during regular business hours for the credit union’s branches. Some debit and credit card transactions were continuing to “function in a limited capacity,” officials said.

On social media, officials also encouraged customers to utilize services from Patelco’s numerous partner institutions, which were not impacted by the security incident.

“Your trust and partnership are of the utmost importance to us, and we are committed to resolving this issue with the highest level of diligence,” Patelco CEO and President Erin Mendez said in an email to customers Sunday. “We know this news is concerning, and we are committed to keeping you informed as the investigation continues.”

On Monday night, Patelco announced on X that it had launched a webpage for all further updates related to the cybersecurity incident.

“We are committed to providing transparent and frequent updates to best of our ability as well as the best possible service that we can, given the disruption,” officials said in their latest update.

The information webpage is available at www.patelco.org/securityupdate.
