Thanks to a 14-8 win over defending champions, the San Rafael Pacifics, then a 10-8 win over the Bakersfield Train Robbers on Friday night, the Dublin Leprechauns won the Pecos League Pacific Division title.
The Leprechauns have earned home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, which starts on Monday (July 27), with the best of three series against the fourth-place Martinez Sturgeon.
Depending upon results, home games will be all in the next week except Thursday. Game times are 6 p.m. at Leprechaun Field at Fallon Sports Park Dublin.
Catcher Carson Richter‘s 4-for-4 performance, with a three-run home run in the eighth inning, pushed the Leprechauns to the win over the Pacifics.
Against the Train Robbers the big bats came through once again as Richter continued his torrid pace with a double and another four-bagger, joined by home runs by Ivory Daniel and Gabe Sepulveda to lead the Leprechauns to their first regular-season championship.
Pitching ace and Most Valuable Player candidate Jacob Casson pitched the final two innings to shut down Bakersfield and secure the victory.
“Our bats are starting to produce at the right time,” said skipper David Aceron. “We will be going with Jacob (Casson) on Monday and feel Gordon (Wend) and Murph (Bostick) will do the job on the mound, our fans will see our best. “
Thinking ahead, if the Leprechauns have success after a week of Pacific Division playoffs, the team will have a few days’ rest and will then travel to Colorado for the Pecos League championship series, likely against Mountain Division front-runner, the Garden City Wind.
