The annual Classic Car Show at Junction Avenue TK-8 School is returning to campus this weekend for a day of specialty food, craft and retail vendors, music as well as raffle prizes.

Scheduled this Saturday (Sept. 13) from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., the event — organized by the school’s Parent Teacher Association — marks the school’s largest fundraiser.

Proceeds from the fourth annual event are slated to support site facility improvements, teacher supply grants, movie nights, family glow dances, additional assemblies featuring Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports as well as tours of nearby community colleges, according to the Junction Avenue TK-8 PTA website.

“At Junction Avenue TK-8, we are committed to providing the best possible education and learning opportunities for our students,” PTA Vice President Jennifer Valley wrote in a letter Aug. 23 to the community. “We believe every student deserves access to the resources and support they need to succeed, regardless of their background or financial situation.”

The PTA fills in funding gaps for activities, assemblies and tools that are not funded by the school district, according to the organization website.

Regarding assemblies featuring Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports, the gatherings are “costly yet well worth it,” Valley said.

The system aims to support students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional and mental health, according to the Center on PBIS website.

Previous assemblies with Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports have been highly impactful on students, Valley added.

The PTA also intends to use the funds to kick off a tradition of sending Junction middle schoolers to tour local community colleges. The visits would offer students “early, positive exposure to higher education,” Valley said.

Proceeds collected from last year’s car show supported the launch of the campus’ new student wellness center, according to Valley. The center offers students a “midday refuge” with the opportunity to talk with a counselor, she said.

This year’s car show is set to take place on the campus’ back blacktop near the basketball courts. For more information, visit junctionavepta.com/annual-car-show.
