Tri-Valley residents joined their peers across the world in recent days in catching a glimpse of the C/2023 A3 Comet (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), a rare comet sighting clear to the naked eye. It reached its closest point to Earth on Oct. 12.

Several readers commented to the Pleasanton Weekly about the comet, including Michael Ventura and Anne Fox sending in photos taken from their neighborhoods.

Also keeping a (camera) eye out for recent phenomena, former Weekly freelance photographer Mike Sedlak, who now lives in Minnesota, shared a stunning picture he took of the Northern Lights on the night of Oct. 10.
