Fire crews in Alameda County responded to 33 fireworks-related calls over the Fourth of July holiday, but no injuries were reported, the County Fire Department said Monday.
The county responded to vegetation and dumpster fires, one structural fire and other outside fires and smoke investigations.
In unincorporated areas of the county there were two vegetation fires, three outside fires and two smoke investigations, the Alameda County Fire Department said.
In Dublin there were several dumpster fires in parks and at least four outside fires caused by spent fireworks that were improperly disposed of. One fire damaged the exterior of a home. In Newark and Emeryville there were two outside fires, as well.
San Leandro had the most fires, with eight reported outside, five vegetation fires, one dumpster fire and one smoke investigation. Union City also had four outside fires.
“While we are pleased that no injuries were reported, these incidents demonstrate how quickly fireworks can ignite fires and create dangerous conditions for communities,” said Alameda County Fire Chief Willie McDonald.
“We appreciate the efforts of our firefighters, dispatchers, and partner agencies who worked throughout the holiday to keep residents safe.”
