The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau on Sunday confirmed the identity of the motorcyclist who died after crashing and subsequently being struck by a big-rig on Interstate 580 in Livermore last week.
The decedent was Christopher Joseph Corrado, 38, of Discovery Bay, according to the coroner’s bureau.
The California Highway Patrol said the motorcyclist was riding westbound on I-580 west of North Livermore Avenue around 9 a.m. April 18 when he failed to slow for traffic conditions ahead and collided with the back of a Mercedes SUV.
The force of the initial crash threw the man from the No. 2 into the No. 4 lane, where he was hit by a big-rig with a trailer, according to the CHP. A second big-rig then ran over the motorcycle. A fifth vehicle was also involved in the wreck.
The circumstances of Corrado’s death remain under investigation by the CHP. Multiple lanes of the freeway were closed for more than two hours that morning.
