The Pleasanton Community of Character Collaborative is holding its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Fellowship Breakfast on Jan. 22 — one week after the national holiday — from 7:30-9 a.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel.
This year's event will feature Jacqueline D. Brown, senior principal of executive and leadership development at Workday, as the keynote speaker.
The group's MLK Legacy Awards will go to Dublin school teacher Catherine Brown, Suzanne Beck of the "Dress a Girl Around the World" project and local nonprofit Tri-Valley REACH.
Tickets are available for purchase via www.pleasanton.org.
Dublin Centre input
The city is hosting two input sessions next week for people interested in learning more about the Dublin Centre mixed-use project on the SCS Property between Tassajara Road and Brannigan Street.
"The Dublin Centre project proposes a mixed-use development of 500 residential units and approximately 38,000 square feet of retail commercial development, a two-acre public park, and a community center on 50.04 acres of the SCS Property," city officials said.
The community meetings are set for Wednesday (Jan. 17) at 7 p.m. and Thursday (Jan. 18) at 6 p.m. via Zoom. The same information will be shared at each session, per city officials. Learn more at dublin.ca.gov.
Mines Road lane closure
The Alameda County Public Works Agency has closed the eastbound lane of Mines Road at mile marker 6.5 since early January as a precautionary measure due to distressed pavement conditions.
Officials have implemented a one-lane, two-way traffic control system in that area until the eastbound lane can safely reopen.
"Motorists traveling through this area are urged to exercise caution and strictly adhere to all traffic control directives. It is recommended that non-local traffic avoid this area," officials said. For updates, visit acpwa.org.
Sheriff's office history via museum
The Museum of the San Ramon Valley is hosting Dublin historian and author Steve Minniear next Thursday (Jan. 18) at 11:30 a.m. to speak about the history of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
The presentation, which will be held virtually by video, will span from the county sheriff's early days in the 1850s through the department's evolution in the 20th and now 21st centuries. The event is free but registration is required; go to museumsrv.org for more details.
PTSCA student exchange
The Pleasanton-Tulancingo Sister City Association is recruiting local high school students and their families for its summer exchange program with its Mexican counterpart.
The reciprocal program "offers students an opportunity to immerse themselves in another culture in a safe family home environment," PTSCA officials said. One-year of high school Spanish, or equivalent proficiency, is required.
An information session is set for next Thursday (Jan. 18) at 7 p.m. at 777 Peters Ave. Learn more at ptsca.org.
