'Don Century' exhibit extended

Citing its popularity, the Museum on Main has extended the run of its recent exhibit "The Don Century: Amador Valley High School 1923-2023" through the end of this year.

The exhibition, which opened in late August in recognition of Amador's centennial anniversary, "features photographs and memorabilia from across all 10 decades of Amador's existence, as well as video interview footage with alumni who attended Amador as far back as the 1940s and as recently as the 2020s," museum officials said.

By extending "The Don Century", the museum is not producing its annual "What Are You Afraid Of?" exhibit that aligns with its Ghost Walk program but does plan to give the gallery a spooky makeover each night of the Ghost Walk and has created a scavenger hunt themed around fears and phobias.

The booking of the traveling display "Gadgets Galore!" has also been bumped from December to late 2024 instead.

Hexcel redevelopment meetings

Dublin city officials are holding two community meetings next week to share information about the private project to redevelop the Hexcel building on the west side of Dublin as a new commercial life sciences complex.

Property owner Overton Moore Properties seeks to tear down the existing 62,175-square-foot Hexcel research and development facility and build a new 125,304-square-foot complex with a light-industrial, advanced manufacturing and life sciences facility, 217 parking stalls and related site improvements. The land is at 11711 Dublin Blvd., just west of the Dublin Pioneer Cemetery and Dublin Heritage Park & Museums properties.

The meetings held via Zoom, which will provide the same information at each, are set for Wednesday (Oct. 25) at 6 p.m. and Thursday (Oct. 26) at 7 p.m. Learn more at https://dublin-development.icitywork.com/.

Suicide awareness event at LPC

Las Positas College's Veterans First Program is highlighting the importance of suicide awareness at its sixth annual 2.2 for 22 Challenge for Veterans this Saturday (Oct. 21) from 9:30 a.m. to noon on the track and field at the campus in Livermore.

Designed to shed light on the fact 22 military veterans die by suicide each day, the event will feature physical challenges and mindfulness exercises, including a mini-Murph challenge around the track, petting a therapy dog for 22 seconds, removing a tire in 2.2 minutes and more, according to LPC officials.

"Our goal with this event is to raise awareness and educate others about this pressing issue," LPC Veterans First Program Supervisor Evelyn Andrews said in a statement.

"It provides a platform for those who have suffered the painful loss of a fellow veteran to bravely share their stories," Andrews added. "At LPC and within the Veterans First Program, we encourage everyone to honor the memory of those we've lost to suicide and to stand together as a community, sending a powerful message that no one is alone in this struggle."

'Bay Area Travel Study'

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission is working with regional transit agency partners to conduct the "Bay Area Travel Study", which aims to learn more about how people travel throughout the nine-county Bay Area.

"Our goal is a Bay Area that is affordable, connected, diverse, healthy and economically vibrant for all of our residents and is also a great place for all our region's visitors to enjoy," MTC Chair and Napa County Supervisor Alfredo Pedroza said in a statement. "Knowing more about how, when and why people go from place to place will help the Commission develop the right policies and make the smartest investments to achieve that goal."
