Reps' town hall

The Tri-Valley's two members of the U.S. House of Representatives — Eric Swalwell and Mark DeSaulnier — are joining forces for a combined town hall meeting in Dublin on Monday.

"Are you wondering what Democrats are working on in Congress? Curious about how our efforts will help Tri-Valley families? … We'll talk about these topics and more, and answer your questions," DeSaulnier said in announcing the event in his email newsletter.

The town hall meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday (July 31) at the Shannon Community Center at 11600 Shannon Ave. in Dublin.

Barbecue fundraiser

The Pleasanton Community of Character Collaborative is getting ready to host its annual fundraising barbecue benefiting its Juanita Haugen Memorial Scholarship, which honors the legacy of the late community leader and former school board trustee.

This year's fundraiser is set for 6 p.m. Aug. 19 at the home of retired police captain and former interim police chief Craig Eicher in Pleasanton. Tickets for $75 per person are available at the Chamber of Commerce website at www.Pleasanton.org.

All of the ticket prices, as well as proceeds from auction items that evening, will go directly to the scholarship fund, as the cost of the dinner is being donated by the collaborative's board.

The recipients of this past school year's Juanita Haugen Scholarships were Shree Billa and Tony Wang of Amador Valley High School, Isaac Gavino and Arian Moghni of Foothill High School and Tyler Dawe of Village High School. For more information, go to www.communityofcharacter.org.
