Free Range Flower Winery in Livermore is set to host a special two-day event next weekend in honor of National Wellness Month, which is observed annually in August and encourages a collective focus on self-care, managing stress and promoting healthy routines.

The winery's Mindfulness Meditation, Gentle Yoga & Mindful Wine Tasting event kicks off each day with a meditation guided by Iman Saint Jean-Saunders, an Alameda-based wellness practitioner who teaches mindfulness, meditation and conscious movement in schools throughout the country, according to organizers.

The meditation is followed on Saturday by a yoga practice of both active and restorative poses led by Natalie Palms, an Oakland teacher, artist and yoga practitioner for the past six years.

On Sunday, the yoga practice will be taught by Gopika Womack-Freeman, a self-care advocate on a life journey to bring creativity, movement and yoga to all ages.

Both yoga classes are open to participants of all experience levels, organizers said.

On both days, Free Range Flower Winery founder and winemaker Aaliyah Nitoto will lead the last activity, which is a mindful wine tasting experience.

Organizers said that while the tasting features several elements associated with a traditional wine tasting like observing the colors, aerating the wine by swirling the glass, taking in the aromas and discussing the flavors, a mindful wine tasting also offers a "full sensory experience" that encourages participants to identify the feeling of the wines.

"One of the unique things about flower wine versus grape-based wine is that there is a distinct feeling folks get from the flower essences or vibrations imbued in the wine, since the flowers are the foundation of the fermentation process. For example, lavender is extraordinarily body-relaxing, while Marigold is literally bright feeling, like a ping! of sunshine," said Sam Prestianni, Nitoto's business partner.

The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 20-21) from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for those 21 and over. Free Range Flower Winery is located at 2271 S Vasco Road, where they also share a tasting room with Longevity Wines.
