The Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance (TVNPA) will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the new CommonPoint Nonprofit Center in Livermore next Thursday.

Also celebrating grand openings at the June 16 event are HERS Breast Cancer Foundation, Hively and NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), which all have new offices located inside of the center.

The CommonPoint Nonprofit Center is a co-working space and community resource center, fulfilling a long-held vision by TVNPA co-founders Kathy Young and Mony Nop. The 2,900 square foot center offers flexible and fixed office space for start-up and established nonprofits available on a daily drop-in or long-term basis, as well as conference room facilities, according to a statement from TVNPA.

CommonPoint features dedicated offices, dedicated cubicles, shared workspaces, and "virtual offices" for those who just want a physical address and use of the conference room. Amenities include secure WiFi, printer, conference room, kitchen and a professional address. It is staffed by TVNPA employees and volunteers, and will host TVNPA trainings, educational sessions and networking events.

"We wanted to establish a co-working space at a low cost so there are several set-ups to accommodate almost any budget," Young said. "Eventually, TVNPA plans to offer sponsorships for start-up nonprofits without budgets, as well as sponsor opportunities to reduce rent for all tenants."

Open since March 1, CommonPoint is located downtown and is already home to the offices of Quest Science Center, Monthly Miracles and Livermore Amador Symphony.

CommonPoint serves as a physical extension of the programs and services TVNPA has developed to support and fuel the growth of the area’s nonprofit community for the past eight years.

"Having a physical place for collaboration — not just with colleagues, but also those they serve — is important for nonprofits, particularly when they’re just getting started," Young said. "Larger nonprofits not based in the Tri-Valley also benefit from having an office front closer to those they serve here."

The grand opening event is set for 4 p.m. on June 16 at 164 North L Street in Livermore.
