The driver accused of a felony hit-and-run that seriously injured a Livermore cyclist on Isabel Avenue nearly a month ago has been arrested and awaits charging by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
The Livermore Police Department responded to the incident at about 9:54 p.m. Aug. 15 for a report of a man lying unconscious in the bicycle lane on southbound Isabel Avenue (Highway 84), south of the Stanley Boulevard connector, LPD officials said.
The cyclist, 64, had been hit by a vehicle and the driver did not stop, help the victim nor report the incident, police said of the investigation by LPD’s traffic unit. The rider sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
With the public’s help identifying the driver and vehicle involved, police arrested driver Brian Callaway, 44, of Modesto at his home Sept. 5 on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing injury, LPD officials said.
He was apprehended without incident and booked into Santa Rita Jail, according to police.
LPD has forwarded the case to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for review and charging.
