Danville police continue to investigate a series of more than a dozen break-ins that occurred in and around downtown earlier this week, saying no arrests have been made thus far and the crimes could be tied to other similar burglaries in nearby communities.
The investigation centers on commercial and car break-ins between 4-6 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 1) primarily in the Crossroads Shopping Center and the 100 block of Hartz Avenue, according to Danville police. They told DanvilleSanRamon.com on Friday that “approximately 14 incidents” had been identified in the same rash of burglaries.
“Danville Police are actively investigating and are reviewing surveillance video and other evidence collected from the affected areas,” the department stated. “Investigators are working to identify the individuals involved, and no arrests have been made at this time. Because this remains an active investigation, we are not releasing additional information about potential suspects or investigative leads at this time.”
Police are also looking into whether the burglars could be part of a crime ring in the area. “We are aware of similar incidents occurring in neighboring communities and believe they may be related to the incidents that took place in Danville. Danville Police is coordinating with those agencies as part of the ongoing investigation,” the department stated.
No injuries were associated with any of the break-ins in Danville, according to police – who declined to release specifics about which businesses were hit, the damage incurred and items stolen.
The burglary clusters were located on opposite sides of downtown Danville, as reported by police – with the 100 block of Hartz on the north end past Diablo Road while Crossroads is on the south end along San Ramon Valley Boulevard at the intersections Hartz Avenue, Hartz Way and Railroad Avenue. The shopping center is about a mile away from both the police station and Interstate 680.
