Ballet Roots shows
Pleasanton’s Ballet Roots Dance Company is kicking off its sixth season this weekend with two performances in the Tri-Valley that the troupe said will mix contemporary music and original choreography.
“Entering our sixth season is a significant milestone for our dancers and artistic staff,” Talia Fallis, the company’s artistic director, said in a press release. “This program captures the core of our mission — bringing high-caliber, innovative professional dance to our local stage.”
The performances will take place on Saturday (Aug. 29) at 5 p.m. at Livermore High School’s theater and on Sunday (Aug. 30) at 5 p.m. at the Firehouse Arts Center in Pleasanton. Go to balletroots.org/events.
Grand jury report
The Alameda County Civil Grand Jury recently published its 2025-26 report, which reviewed four items: illegal dumping Oakland, unresolved and new problems in Newark’s school district, the city of Alameda’s emergency preparedness and holding cells across several jails in the county.
The annual report reviews, investigates and offers recommendations regarding citizens’ complaints about issues happening at both the county and municipal levels.
“The Civil Grand Jury’s central purpose is to offer ideas and recommendations for improving the functions of government, with the goal of making it more effective,” the report states.
So far the city of Oakland and the Newark Unified School District have responded to the report’s recommendations. To view the full report, visit grandjury.acgov.org.
E-bike rebates
Ava Community Energy has extended its e-bike rebate initiative, Ava Bike Electric, until the end of 2027.
The program offers point-of-sale rebates to Alameda County residents and Ava customers in San Joaquin County for the purchase of new e-bikes from select bicycle shops in the provider’s service area.
“The success of our e-bike program has been overwhelming,” Ava CEO Howard Chang said in a statement. “This program has met all of its goals, including reducing transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions, increasing equitable access to clean transportation, and supporting the local economy.”
Program participants must be at least 18 years old. Ava selects applicants at random and at least 40% of all rebate funding is slated for income-qualified participants enrolled in select programs, according to Ava officials. Learn more at avaenergy.org.
