As 2025 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the stories that made the greatest impact in Livermore and across the Tri-Valley — stories that sparked public conversations, elevated unheard voices, and led to meaningful change.
In March, Jude Strzemp took an in-depth look at the successes and challenges facing downtown Livermore, exploring how local businesses, community identity, and evolving development pressures are shaping the city’s core. The story prompted renewed public discussion about planning priorities, economic vitality, and what it will take to keep downtown thriving as Livermore continues to grow.
In September, Strzemp reported on the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District’s response to public criticism following revelations about an executive cabinet beach retreat, superintendent compensation, and new office furniture purchases. The coverage examined the questions these decisions raised about spending, transparency, and district accountability.
In October, Deborah Grossman explored a very different facet of local life: the future of the region’s wine industry. Her story examined why Cabernet Franc may become Livermore Valley’s next signature grape, outlining the logic, optimism, and economic considerations behind this emerging shift. The piece highlighted the Valley’s unique agricultural heritage and the growers and vintners working to shape its next chapter.
