The program, scheduled to begin on Thursday (Feb. 20) at 7:45 a.m. in the Firehouse Arts Center, is open to all community members who register to attend by Monday. Learn more at ppie.org.
Foster support town hall
Supervisor David Haubert and Alameda County Child and Family Services Department are holding a town hall in Dublin later this month to offer information and interaction for adults interested in becoming a resource parent or a respite care provider.
“We look forward to bringing together all of the wonderful resources that increase the success of our foster families and provide support to children and transitional-aged youth in the foster care system,” Haubert’s office said. “Topics will include supporting foster youth through mentorship, advocacy, tutoring, recreational activities, and more,” Dublin city officials added.
The session is set for Feb. 25 from 5-7:15 p.m. in the Dublin Library at 200 Civic Plaza. Snacks will be provided. RSVP by emailing Lindsey.Knight@acgov.org.
Livermore Rotary grants
The Rotarian Foundation of Livermore is encouraging community organizations in the Livermore Valley to apply for grants available for projects and other efforts that contribute to the health and well-being of the community.
Applications for awards of up to $10,000 are due by March 1, with the awards ceremony to follow in April.
“Over the years, the foundation has supported projects that have the greatest impact per dollar spent,” organizers said. “In 2024, the foundation awarded over $206,000 to 28 community organizations. Since 1999, the foundation has awarded over $1.6 million in grants to support our community.”

AAPI Heritage Month prep
Pleasanton city officials are asking residents and community groups to come forward if they’re interested in participating in or supporting the city’s Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration on May 17.
“This celebration honors and showcases the rich diversity, history and traditions of the AAPI community. The event will feature a combination of a themed storytime, music, arts and crafts, and interactive activities,” city officials said.
In particular, they are looking for people to sign up to help with event planning, to host a booth or table, to present a cultural performance or provide onsite event support. Inquire with recreation manager Rachel Prater at rprater@cityofpleasantonca.gov by Feb. 24.
YEA! Awards
The Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council is accepting applications through March 7 from high school aged students in Pleasanton with original works in music, literacy and visual arts for its 28th annual Youth Excellence in Arts (YEA!) Awards competition.
Cash prizes of $100 to $1,000 will be awarded through an adjudication process, PCAC officials said. The Don Lewis “Say Yes to Music Grants” are also under the program’s umbrella. Learn more at pleasantonarts.org.
Youth Environmental Video Contest
Tri-Valley CAREs, a local nonprofit focused on environmental health and justice issues, is seeking submissions for its Youth Environmental Video Contest through March 21.
“Our goal is simple: to inspire action and spark conversations about the environment, all while uplifting the creativity and perspectives of the younger generation,” organizers said. “Environmental challenges often feel overwhelming, but we believe that by listening to and empowering youth, we can take meaningful steps toward a healthier planet.”
Open to local residents ages 10 to 25 years old, the contest will award $750 to the winner, $500 for second place and $250 for third place.

“Enjoy nature, community, and sustainability as we celebrate the Jewish New Year for Trees,” organizers said. “Learn about the history of historic ranches, followed by a Secular seder and potluck. Our event will be outdoors, so please dress accordingly. Please bring a dish to share.”
The community event is free for TVCJ members, with a suggested donation of $15 per adult for non-members who attend. To RSVP, visit trivalleyculturaljews.org or email culturaljews@gmail.com.
