The city is again looking to bring Dublin together for an end-of-summer festival celebrating the multi-cultural community.

Billed as “equal parts food, art, wine, music, and dance from around the world”, the annual Splatter celebration is set to return this Saturday (Sept. 14) from 12-8:30 p.m. in Emerald Glen Park. The festival will also feature an evening dance party and a drone light show as the grand finale.

“For over a decade, Splatter has brought neighbors together to celebrate one of Dublin’s greatest strengths — our diversity,” Mayor Michael McCorriston told the Pleasanton Weekly. “Whether you’re a Dubliner or visiting from a nearby city, we invite everyone to come out and enjoy music, art, food and multicultural performances in a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere.”

City Manager Linda Smith, who is in her last weeks on the job in Dublin before moving to Orinda, said, “Splatter is a perfect example of Dublin’s vibrant community spirit. Since the annual festival started in 2012, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing both the hard work behind the scenes and the joy of those enjoying the event. While this will be my final Splatter as city manager, it certainly won’t be my last as a resident.”

The free festival is designed as wide-ranging and family-friendly with art activities, live music and dance from many cultures, unique art installations, a culinary marketplace and a world craft bazaar, along with children’s carnival rides and games.

The food and drink options will include “The Rose Lounge – VIP Experience”, offering a “private, velvet-roped lounge will feature interactive food stations, elevated wine and beer tastings, unique roaming entertainment, a private dance floor, and a front row seat to the 250-drone light show,” according to city officials. “The Rose Lounge” passports are limited.

On the park’s Main Stage, Prince cover group The Purple ones will open the music at noon, followed by Livermore Valley bluegrass and folk band Crawdad Republic at 2 p.m., and then Taylor Swift tribute Twist on Taylor at 4 p.m. and Mustache Harbor closing starting at 6:30 p.m.

Cultural performances of dance and music will be at the forefront in the Emerald Glen Park Amphitheater, including presentations by Xiaopei Chinese Dance; Halau Makana Lani, featuring the Hawaiian art of hula; Ballet Folklorico Costa de Oro; Riar Academy of Performing Arts; and Dunsmuir Scottish Dancers, city officials said.

Taking to the Side Yard Stage throughout the afternoon will include the likes of Dublin poet laureate James Morehead, Kung Fu USA, The 5.25 band and Bhangra Dance, according to the city. Roaming entertainers, interactive art activities and art demonstrations will also occur across the festival grounds.

High school artists will have their work on display nearby inside The Wave at Emerald Glen Park as part of the “High Life” exhibition organized by the Dublin Arts Collective, running from 1-5 p.m. Saturday.

Civically minded residents can also share their input on an upcoming park project while at Splatter. From 3-6 p.m., people can give feedback along “Sponsor Row” about the design concepts for two neighborhood parks in the planned Francis Ranch development — separate park parcels at about 5.5 acres each.

The city is also plugging smart planning when it comes to Splatter attendance logistics. Officials note that parking is limited in the south parking lot off Central Parkway. Street parking will be available on Central Parkway and Gleason Drive, along with offsite event parking at the East County Hall of Justice lot as well as at Fallon Sports Park from where a free, continuous shuttle will run to the festival.

Attendees should also consider downloading the “DublinCAEvent” app to stay up-to-date on scheduling and other information, officials said. Splatter is put on each year by the city’s Parks and Community Services Department, with sponsorship support from local businesses. Find out more at www.dublinsplatter.com.
