As the summer heat rolls in just in time for Independence Day festivities, the city of Livermore has shortened its family-friendly celebration at the Livermore Municipal Airport on Thursday to 10 a.m. to noon. It was previously set to run until 2 p.m.

The celebration will still maintain its original attractions including aircraft displays, a musical performance by Groove Objective and a petting zoo, among other activities.

There will also be hydration stations, misters and fans around the event to help keep cool, officials said.

In an announcement on social media, the city also noted a few reminders for participants: the picnic area space is available for participants to buy food from vendors or bring their own picnic lunch; participants are advised to bring their refillable water bottles as there will be refill stations available and there will be no fireworks, outside alcohol, barbecues, outside vendors or pets.

The other celebratory events — LARPD’s Independence Day Dash set for Thursday morning at 8:15 a.m. and the Rincon Library’s storytelling and parade event Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. — are still set to continue as scheduled.
