In honor of its 20-year anniversary at its current location, Livermore’s Civic Center Library is hosting a community birthday party complete with free cupcakes and a variety of activities this Saturday (June 8).
The city-wide celebration welcomes all ages to participate in craft workshops, dancing demonstrations, science experiments, henna and face painting from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the library that quickly became a sanctuary to many happy readers and library-goers in the Livermore area, according to an announcement from the library.

The library is commemorating two decades since its opening at 1188 S. Livermore Ave. after previously being located just a few buildings over at the corner of Pacific Avenue and S. Livermore Ave., which now houses the Livermore City Council Chambers.
The library intends to dedicate all of Saturday to celebrating with an activity-packed schedule set at each hour.
Just at noon, participants can choose between hula dancing in the community rooms, crocheting in the reading room, decorating party hats in the Youth Room, water playing outside near the cafe, or painting in a class run on the lawn.Â
Attendees will also be able to register for the Summer Learning Program and pick up a free book just for signing up.
A testament to the integrity of the library is its emphasis on promoting community engagement in reading. As part of the Summer Learning Program, participants who track their reading time and activities become eligible for a raffle in which they could win a variety of prizes.
“2024 Summer Learning Program raffle prizes include a Nintendo Switch, LEGO sets, Le Creuset Cast Iron Cook’s Oven, Hydroflask water bottles, Boba making kits, and more,” according to library officials.
Those interested in participating in the reading program are encouraged to preregister at Livermore.beanstack.org or on the free Beanstack app.
Saturday’s event will also welcome Livermore’s first responders and Mayor John Marchand. Marchand will be delivering remarks at 1 p.m. in the Plaza accompanied by appearances from the police and fire department with their vehicles in the police roundabout at 2 and 3 p.m.Â
More information about Saturday’s celebration and the library’s full calendar of summer events is available at library.livermoreca.gov.
