State of the City

Dublin Mayor Melissa Hernandez is set to deliver her State of the City address at a luncheon event May 1 at the Shannon Community Center. 

In her speech, Hernandez “will share the financial outlook of the City, along with key accomplishments from the past year (and) highlight important projects that have shaped, and will shape, the future of Dublin,” city officials said. For tickets and more information, visit dublin.ca.gov.

Wine & Wags

Livermore Valley Wine Community is looking to bring together wine lovers and their pooches for the Wine & Wags special event at Vasco Row this Sunday (April 14) from 12-4 p.m.

“Ticket holders will receive a GoVino logo wine glass and two wine pours at each participating winery,” organizers said. “Dogs will enjoy free treats, including ‘yappetizers’ and ‘pup cups,’ photo booths and a belly rub station. Look for food and pet-themed gifts available for purchase as well as free, live music.”

Nine local wineries are set to take part, along with eight pet product vendors and six animal rescue organizations to promote pet adoptions. Learn more at LVwine.org.  

‘The Relevance of Poetry’

The Tri-Valley Writers club is hosting its monthly meeting next weekend, with regional poet Gillian Wegener serving as the guest speaker.

A published poet and current president of the Modesto-Stanislaus Poetry Center, Wegener is set to present “The Relevance of Poetry in Our Everyday Lives … or Poetry and why it makes our lives better,” according to club officials.

The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. next Saturday (April 20) in Room 2470 of Building 2400 at Las Positas College in Livermore. To register, visit trivalleywriters.org. 

Quilters meeting

Amador Valley Quilters member Rhondi Reeves is set to serve as the featured speaker at this weekend’s club activities. 

Reeves will be talking about samples of her quilt designs during the club’s monthly meeting from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday (April 13) at Pleasanton Middle School, and then leading a workshop teaching about Thimblecreek’s House Quilt on Sunday (April 14) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bothwell Arts Center in Livermore.

Garden Club sale

The Livermore Amador Valley Garden Club is holding its annual Plant and Garage Sale this weekend (April 13-14) at the home of co-president Dana Boyd at 795 Newbury St.

Running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, the fundraiser will offer plants, gardening-related items and garage sale items donated from club members. The event will be rain or shine. Learn more at lavgc.org.

AAUW scholarships

The American Association of University Women’s Livermore-Pleasanton-Dublin Branch has opened applications for its annual scholarship program.

Financial awards will be available for female applicants entering their third or fourth years in college next academic year. The deadline to apply is May 1. Visit lpd-ca.aauw.net.
