Zephyr Grill & Bar, a mainstay of downtown Livermore for more than two decades, will close its doors at the end of October.
Owners Lynn and Randy Tei announced the news Wednesday morning on social media, saying the decision came after an unsuccessful attempt to sell the business, sans brand name, in a shift they had hoped would “carry the restaurant forward.”
“Unfortunately, that path did not come together, and after much consideration, we have made the difficult decision that it is time to close this chapter,” the post said.
Zephyr Grill & Bar opened on First Street in 2004. Among the challenges the Teis have faced in recent years was a small fire in the restaurant’s prep area in July 2025 that forced a months-long closure and cleanup.
Upon reopening in November 2025, the Teis said they had “tremendous hope for Zephyr’s future.”
“We gave it everything we had, which makes this decision that much more difficult,” they wrote on social media.
The Teis did not respond to a request for comment.
However, in their post bidding farewell to Zephyr customers, they recounted their fond memories of birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and in-house specials. The owners also thanked past and current team members who “helped make Zephyr what it has been for more than two decades.”
Zephyr will be open 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays-Thursdays and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Fridays- Sundays through Oct. 31.
The Teis also own Zephyr Grill & Bar in Brentwood and Smith’s Landing Seafood Grill in Antioch, both of which will remain open.
