Three longstanding businesses recently moved out of a retail building on Old First Street, following the resale of the property last year.
Situated at 2558 Old First St., the three-tenant center formerly housed Tri-Valley Cobbler, J & R Sports Supply and Pierson’s Livermore Auto Stereo.
Upon turnover of the building ownership, Tri-Valley Cobbler owner Danny Chappell was informed that he could not renew his lease after it was set to end July 31, he told Livermore Vine earlier this year.
Ownership of the building did not intend to renew leases for any of the tenants, city officials confirmed at the time.
As of late-August, the building was empty of all lessees. The new building ownership could not be reached for comment.
“The new owner didn’t want anything to do with the current long-standing tenants,” Chappell said.
On Dec. 4, 2024, the Alameda County Assessor’s Office recognized the building’s change of ownership. A company called 2558 Old First Street Partners, LLC purchased the site from Jali LLC, the office confirmed.
The three retail spaces were listed as available for rent starting Aug. 1, 2025 on Showcase, a website for commercial real estate rental and sale.
At a rate of $22 per square foot — or $20 per square foot if leasing the whole building — the price was approximately double the amount Chappell paid for Tri-Valley Cobbler.
Community members offered Chappell alternative retail spaces in the city, but the rents were still about double the rate he was accustomed to paying.
It is not immediately clear whether Chappell has reopened his business elsewhere.
Former neighbor J & R Sports Supply has relocated to a new site on Independence Drive in Livermore. Business management declined to comment on the move.
Currently, the building on Old First Street is available on LoopNet, a website for commercial real estate leasing and sales.
Ownership of Pierson’s Livermore Auto Stereo did not respond to Livermore Vine’s request for comment.
