In honor of the traditional Irish holiday St. Patrick’s Day, Tri-Valley cities and organizations have planned a number of events going all out with Celtic pride.
The cultural and religious day pays tribute to the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. It is observed every March 17, though often celebrated on the corresponding weekend, to honor the saint’s death date.

To start off this weekend’s festivities, the Dublin Historical Society is hosting The Shamrock Gala on Friday (March 15) at 6 p.m. at the Shannon Community Center. Held every year, the event raises funds for the historical society and allows guests to mingle in the spirit of the Irish holiday.
In Danville, the Irish band Green Road is set to perform at the Village Theatre on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Green Road is known for their blend of Irish ballads with American bluegrass, combining the sounds of banjo, mandolin and guitar.
That same day, the genre bending band CaliCeltic will headline Pleasanton’s Firehouse Arts Center. Combining elements of traditional Irish music with modern West Coast sounds, CaliCeltic describes themselves as “fruit of a different musical kind.”
The returning group will take the Firehouse stage at 8 p.m. Their latest extended play (EP) “Whiskey Mustache” was released earlier this month.
Join local first responders for a special green pancake and sausage breakfast on Saturday (March 16) from 7 – 10 a.m. at 7494 Donohue Drive in Dublin. The annual Alameda County Firefighters St. Patrick’s Day Pancake Breakfast event will benefit the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation.

“It’s a perfect way to start the morning before finding a seat for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade or heading over to the Festival,” Dublin city representatives said of the breakfast.
The 40th annual Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Parade event will kick off Saturday 9:30 a.m., beginning at the Civic Center. Dublin city staff have noted the parade event is planned to take place rain or shine and urges guests to prepare for rainy weather.
“After a hearty breakfast at the Alameda County Firefighters’ Local 55 Pancake Breakfast, residents and guests can find a spot in Downtown Dublin to watch the Dublin Lions Club St. Patrick’s Day Parade,” city officials said. “The parade kicks-off at Dublin Boulevard and Amador Plaza Road, traveling east on Dublin Boulevard, north on Village Parkway, and west on Amador Valley Boulevard, ending near the Dublin Senior Center.”
“Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets to watch from along the parade route,” they added.
Over 80 parade entries will make their way through the streets of Dublin, including festive floats, marching bands, dancing groups, equestrians and more.

The Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Festival will then begin welcoming visitors for the weekend, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The festival will feature three entertainment stages with planned acts from Irish dances, celtic rock bands and bagpiper players.
An international food court will offer cuisines from around the globe – with a special highlight on traditional Irish foods such as corned beef sliders, Irish bangers and mash and soda bread. Classic fair foods like corn dogs and popcorn will also be available.
Other festival main attractions include iconic carnival rides and an Irish Tea Cottage where guests can enjoy a cup of Irish tea with shortbread and scones. A St. Patrick’s Day-themed drone show is set to light up the festival sky Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Throughout the weekend, festival goers can find over 250 vendors selling handmade goods, crafts, and more.

In Pleasanton, residents ages 21 and older can partake in the 11th annual St. Patrick’s Day Brew Crawl on Saturday from 5-8 p.m. Organized by the Pleasanton Downtown Association, guests can sample over 25 craft beers from local breweries while walking through the center of town.
In downtown Danville, the Veterans Memorial Building Operating Committee is holding its Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner fundraiser on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Later Saturday evening at 8 p.m., Danú will bring traditional Irish music to the Bankhead Theater stage in Livermore. Their repertoire includes lively Irish jigs and emotional ballads.
To end the weekend, participants will get moving in the annual Dublin Shamrock 5K Fun Run & Walk on Sunday morning. Starting at 8:30 a.m., over 2,000 runners, walkers and joggers will set out on Dublin Boulevard near the Civic Center.
