Public Art — programs, murals, and performances — help create the vision of who we are and what we can be. With that in mind, the City of Livermore collects funds from a number of sources and, on a regular basis, gives grants to support different artistic projects.
The Livermore Commission for the Arts is the advisory body tasked with accepting and evaluating applications for grants, then recommending grantees to the City Council.
This March 1, at 5 p.m., applications for both Mini-Grants of up to $1,000 and Project and Program Grants of up to $10,000 for this cycle are due.
Have an idea for an artistic endeavor that helps build community? Apply by email to Arts@LivermoreCA.gov or deliver an application to the Innovation and Economic Development Department at City Hall, 1052 S. Livermore Ave., Livermore. Want more information? Celebrating Community Through Art
Throughout February, Livermore has been celebrating Black History Month with different media of art by and for different ages. Here are ways to participate:
Music: At 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, come to the Civic Center Library Plaza (1188 S. Livermore Avenue) to hear the Granada High School Jazz Band play music composed by African American Jazz musicians.
Two Art Projects:
*Throughout February, visit the Springtown Library (998 Bluebell Drive) to pick up a “take and make” painting kit that enables children and parents to learn about Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald, artists who created the Obamas’ official portraits.
*On February 24, from 1-4 p.m., participate in an Ancestor Portraits workshop that teaches techniques for creating a monochromatic portrait. This workshop will be led by JAMM the Artist and is a chance to honor, remember and celebrate family, friends, and heroes of the African Diaspora from past and present. Art Exhibit: Throughout February, visit the Civic Center Library to view the Art of the African Diaspora artists: Arthur Norcome, Joseph Robinson, Asual Kwahuumba, Julie Atkinson, Kevin Lance Daniels, Joanne Johnson, and Ashlie Kego.
