An Oakley man and an Antioch man were arrested following a surveillance operation by the San Ramon Police Department that resulted in a pursuit late Monday evening in which multiple police vehicles were struck and one officer sustained minor injuries.
SRPD investigators were conducting the surveillance operation near Kyler Court and Kyler Lane, believing that the prime suspects in multiple vehicle burglaries and thefts in the city and surrounding area would be returning to where they had previously abandoned a vehicle.
The suspects returned just after 11 p.m. Monday night according to police, who then attempted a “high risk vehicle stop”, with the suspects fleeing and striking multiple police vehicles and one officer getting hurt.
The black Volkswagen with four occupants later lost control and struck a fire hydrant in front of the Ivy Hill apartment complex near Alma Park, at which point the suspects fled on foot through the building, police said.
Two suspects, including the driver of the vehicle, were arrested following a foot pursuit. Despite a thorough search that included air support from the California Highway Patrol and K-9 deployments from Dublin Police Services and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, the other two suspects were not found, according to police.
The two arrestees were taken to the Martinez Detention Facility, where the driver remained on a $560,000 bail as of Tuesday afternoon. The injured officer was treated at a nearby hospital and later released, police said.
