A Livermore-based swim team recently raised more than $10,000 at its annual swim-a-thon for Open Heart Kitchen, a nonprofit that provides meals and support to people facing food insecurity in the Tri-Valley.
The Livermore Aquacowboys fundraiser on Oct. 11 featured 87 swimmers who traversed a total of nearly 8,000 laps in the pool at the Robert Livermore Community Center, according to a joint press release by the team and OHK.

Through the swim-a-thon, the Aquacowboys raised the second largest sum of any group since OHK began offering virtual fundraising for community groups, according to the statement.
“We chose to fundraise for Open Heart Kitchen because we know there is an increasing need in our community, and we wanted to give back to the community that has supported us throughout the years we’ve been living and growing up here,” swim team senior Cassie Clark said in a statement.
Organizers of the swim-a-thon and fundraiser included Clark along with fellow swimmers Xochitl Araiza, Steven Hsueh, Eva Kaye, Gabby Kleman, Megan Lemler, Chase Lewis, Bridget O’Bryan, Tyler Ortiz, Leo Quijalvo and McKinley Scobie.
“The commitment of the Livermore Aquacowboys swim team to support Open Heart Kitchen’s work in the Tri-Valley represents the very best of our community, and it gives me great hope to know that the world we all live in rests in the generous, capable and compassionate hands of our youngest generations,” OHK Executive Director John Bost said.
