Officials at Las Positas College are preparing to formally open two new structures at the campus next week, with a ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony scheduled to unveil a new public safety complex, and an advanced manufacturing and transportation building.

The new facilities – funded largely by parcel tax revenue generated by a bond measure that was most recently renewed in 2022 – are aimed at offering the latest technology for students in some of the most high-demand fields on the job market

“We are incredibly proud to unveil our new Public Safety Complex and Advanced Manufacturing & Transportation Building,” Las Positas College President Dyrell Foster said in an announcement Thursday.  “These facilities represent a significant investment in the future of our students and our community. By providing state-of-the-art learning environments and hands-on learning opportunities, we are empowering our students to succeed in high-demand fields while contributing to the economic vitality of our region.”

At Las Positas, those fields include fire technology, administration of justice, emergency medical services, manufacturing, welding and auto technology programs, all of which are set to be bolstered by the new facilities.

For public safety students, the new complex for their programs includes a three-story fire training tower, fire training spaces and apparatuses, and a simulation lab and situation rooms for emergency medical services students. Meanwhile, manufacturing and transportation students are set to have their learning spaces elevated to include dedicated workspaces and labs equipped with the latest technology in their new building.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the public will have access to the new buildings via a guided tour that includes light refreshments and opportunities to network and learn more about the technical programs housed in the new facilities.

The ceremony is set for 4:15 p.m. Tuesday (April 16) on the Las Positas campus at 3000 Campus Hill Drive in Livermore.
