Prop 50 election

Livermore residents will have until Tuesday (Nov. 4) to drop off their ballots or visit one of the two voting centers in the city for the statewide election on Proposition 50, a ballot measure that would temporarily allow California to draw new congressional district maps until 2030.

According to the state’s voter guide, the pro-argument for the measure is that it will help “counter Donald Trump’s scheme to rig next year’s congressional election” while the main argument against the measure is that it dismantles “safeguards that keep elections fair … and eliminates voter protections that ban maps designed to favor political parties”.

An in-person voting center has been open this week and continues through Tuesday at the Hindu Community & Cultural Center in Livermore (1232 Arrowhead Ave.), 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day including the weekend and extended to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 1020 Mocho St. will also be a voting location in Livermore for this statewide special election, open Saturday through Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the Alameda County Registrar of Voters’ Office.

Official drop boxes are available 24 hours a day until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Livermore City Hall, Livermore Library’s Rincon Branch and Summit Park. Ballots can also be submitted via the mail or at any other certified drop box in Alameda County.
