The time has come again for neighborhoods throughout the Tri-Valley region to prepare for National Night Out gatherings.
Since 1984, National Night Out has been a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer.
Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and held annually on the first Tuesday of August (this year on Aug. 6), festivities are typically organized by nonprofits, block watches, police departments and other local organizations.
The festivities serve to remind community members of the importance of interconnectedness and to raise awareness about anti-crime efforts such as drug prevention and town and neighborhood watch.
Unique to each community, festivities on the day can range from a backyard barbeque to city-wide festivals.
Danville
Danville officials said they look forward to bringing back a sense of community to residents with National Night Out.
Residents can fill out a “National Night Out Request Form” to have a member of the Danville Police Department personally stop by their celebration. Officials urge event hosts to register by Friday (July 19) to ensure representatives from Danville PD will be visiting.
Dublin
“What started with residents simply leaving their porch lights on soon progressed to something bigger: neighbors organizing cookouts, parades, contests, neighborhood walks, festivals, rallies, and community service events, such as a park clean-up,” Dublin officials said in an announcement.
Residents can register their events with Dublin police to receive a visit from officers, Alameda County Fire and/or Dublin city officials. Registration is available at dublin.ca.gov until Friday (July 19) at 5 p.m.
Livermore
National Night Out is particularly popular in Livermore as one of city’s biggest community events of the year, according to LPD officials. Police personnel will make appearances at gatherings from 5-8 p.m. on Aug. 6. Those interested in hosting an event in their neighborhood can register at livermoreca.gov/nno with the deadline set for July 30.
Pleasanton
The city of Pleasanton celebrates almost 20 years of National Night Out. In an announcement released by the Pleasanton Police Department, the city anticipates over 30 block parties this year.
“Parties can include potlucks, barbeques, ice cream socials, live bands, bounce houses or kids’ parades. Parties that register early could be visited by the Pleasanton Police Department, elected officials, or the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department,” announced Pleasanton PD in a social media post.
Registration is available at cityofpleasantonca.gov. The deadline is July 31.
San Ramon
San Ramon celebrates its 41st annual National Night Out this year from 5:30-9 p.m. Residents are encouraged to join the community outside in the evening on porches, lawns or front steps with neighbors and local police officers.
Neighborhood Watch groups are additionally planning several community events such as block parties and socials. The San Ramon Police Department will be visiting registered events during the celebration; registration is listed at sanramon.ca.gov by July 22.
