Since Aimee and Bryan Wingen opened their brick-and-mortar bakery in June of 2021, it has quickly become a go-to spot in Livermore for bread, pastries and other baked goods.
In addition to its growing popularity, Wingen Bakery has also undergone an expansion that was completed earlier this month – just in time for the holidays.
In May of this year, the Wingens took over the lease at 54 S Livermore Ave., which was previously occupied by Del Sole Comfort Shoes. Upon securing the space, Bryan Wingen got to work designing and renovating the former shoe store into a commercial kitchen to serve as their new pastry production space.
The 1,200-square-foot space features an enclosed bread room with glass windows visible to the public as well as additional seating made by local woodworker Ben O'Hearn.
The existing bakery side – at 50 S Livermore Ave. – will now be fully dedicated to a bistro style menu. Expanded menu items will highlight brunch and lunch. "Think biscuits and gravy, French toast, more sandwiches options and soups," Aimee Wingen told Livermore Vine in an email. "Everything will continue to be made in house, focusing on seasonality and sustainability," she added.
Both kitchens will continue to operate Wednesday-Monday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Wingens are also gearing up for the third annual "Way Day" this Sunday which commemorates the birthday of their late daughter Waylynn. She was born on Dec. 4, 2019 and died just eight months later after being diagnosed with a terminal genetic disorder called Zellweger syndrome.
The celebratory event is a fundraiser that benefits organizations dedicated to supporting children with life-threatening and chronic illnesses. This year they are raising money for the Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders, according to a post on Wingen Bakery's Instagram account.
"The Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders (or GFPD) supports families and children affected by Zellweger Syndrome and we are setting up a direct donation page and in addition we will be donating a portion of our sales on December 4th to the GFPD," the post reads.
Wingen Bakery will offer a number of specials as part of the Way Day celebration including Waylynn’s Chocolate Birthday Cake by the slice and blueberry pancakes – which was one of the few foods Waylynn was able to taste.
The bakery will also have pins for sale featuring Waylynn's signature red beanie from SuperCoolHeckYeah, Enchantment Floral bouquets and face painting for kids by Kelly Trainer starting at 11:30 a.m.
Way Day will be celebrated at Wingen Bakery on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
