Pickleball Kingdom is set to open in Livermore by late December, with eight indoor courts for players to practice their dinks, drives and volleys.

The 25,000-square-foot facility is under construction at 4650 Arroyo Vista, replacing the Joann Fabrics that closed in winter 2023. The new facility will have professional lighting, climate control and acoustical treatments designed for indoor pickleball, plus a community room, gaming lounge, exercise and stretching area, viewing platform, shop, dink wall and ball machine.

Pickleball Kingdom Livermore will offer skill-based open play, private court reservations, clinics, lessons, free introductory classes, junior programs, leagues, tournaments, events and instant video replays.

The Livermore location is the second California outpost for Pickleball Kingdom, joining Roseville.

Members of the Tri-Valley Pickleball Club will get early access to the courts in December under a pilot partnership, part of what Pickleball Kingdom Livermore owners Abhimanyu Dhariwal and Shreya Trivedi said is an effort to make the facility a home for the entire Tri-Valley pickleball community.

Dhariwal told Livermore Vine that the trial partnership is rooted in the Tri-Valley Pickleball Club being the “largest non-profit group organizing pickleball growth in the Tri-Valley.” In a statement, he applauded the club’s creation of an “incredibly active and welcoming pickleball community.”

The pre-opening preview for club members will include a four-hour facility tour and playtime on the courts. Club members will be invited to a pilot event on courts sometime in January or February, Dhariwal said.

Club President Kirby Wong said the facility could also potentially serve as a venue for the group’s social and competitive events in the future.

The launch of Pickleball Kingdom Livermore comes amid financial trouble for The Picklr, a separate franchisor that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last Friday (Oct. 9) after the company took on an untenable amount of corporate guarantees, according to reporting from the Sports Business Journal.

As Pickleball Kingdom, which has 43 current and upcoming locations across the U.S., continues to “expand at a rapid pace,” the company remains focused on its sustainability with responsible growth and operational support, officials said.

Trivedi and Dhariwal are both pickleball players, and company officials  said ownership  shares the franchise’s passion for building community. A statement from Pickleball Kingdom notes the business is “looking forward to expanding access to indoor pickleball and creating a welcoming destination for players of all ages and skill levels throughout the Livermore area.”

In other pickleball news, the Tri-Valley Pickleball Club is scheduled to host its Harvest Crush tournament this weekend (Oct. 17-18) at May Nissen Park and Livermore Downs Park in Livermore.
