The city of Dublin’s annual Splatter festival – a multicultural showcase of entertainment, art and community – is set to take over Emerald Glen Park on Saturday.
The family event will feature live music, dance performances, art activities, food vendors, local wine and craft beer, children’s carnival rides and games, and the new Color Dash fun run through the park on Central Parkway, according to city officials.
“Immerse yourself in Dublin’s diversity with an array of arts and crafts activities celebrating the many cultures represented in the community,” officials said on the city website. “Take a stroll through the World Craft Bazaar and shop for a unique and diverse array of goods from around the world and enjoy live and interactive multi-cultural performances throughout the day.”
With the festival set from noon to 8:30 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 12), Splatter will get out of the gates from 9-10 a.m. with the Color Dash, a noncompetitive 1.2-mile course through Emerald Glen where each registrant gets a white T-shirt that will transform into “a vibrant, custom-painted canvas” when runners and walkers stop at five color stations.
Music at the main stage will feature country covers with the Tyler Gene Band from noon to 1:30 p.m., followed by a special performance from the Emerald High School band, and then Woodie & The Longboards (The Beach Boys and surf tribute band) from 2-3:30 p.m., Night Train (’80s and ’90s rock cover band) at 4 p.m., and finally the headliner Good Time Collective (billed as “the Bay Area’s ultimate party starters”) from 6:30 p.m. until the end of the event.
Cultural performances are scheduled at the Emerald Glen Park Amphitheater, including Kung Fu USA (noon to 1:15 p.m.), Dublin High School’s Filipino Club (1:45-2:45 p.m.), We Dance (3-3:45 p.m.) and Indian fusion rock band, T-B-D (4-4:45 p.m.).
The Rotary Club of Dublin will pour Tri-Valley craft beer and wine throughout the day.
The Dublin Arts Collective will present its “High Life” exhibition, with artwork from local high school students, inside The Wave at Emerald Glen Park from 1-5 p.m.
Admission to Splatter is free, but rides, games, food, drinks and some activities do cost money. For more information, visit www.dublinsplatter.com.
Parking near the festival will be limited, city officials acknowledged, with a small lot in the south parking area along Central Parkway, behind The Wave, plus street parking on Central Parkway and Gleason Drive. Offsite parking is available at the East County Hall of Justice lot, 5151 Gleason Drive, with a free shuttle running every 30 minutes between Fallon Sports Park and the festival.
