A story synonymous with Shakespeare and love arrives at two venues this Valentine’s Day weekend.

SPARC Theater is producing “fast-paced” staged readings of “Romeo and Juliet” in Livermore and San Ramon — accompanied by chocolate dessert and local wines for the holiday of the heart.

“Romance is in the air during this three-actor retelling of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Experience a script-in-hand reading of the classic star-crossed lovers’ tale,” SPARC reps said of the upcoming show.

Part of the nonprofit’s “Get Out of the House” reading series, “Romance and Juliet” is a theatrical performance “between a full show and story time” with professional actors on short turnaround, according to SPARC.

“It means the actors have not been given enough rehearsal time to memorize the lines, so they carry a script,” SPARC officials said. “Actors fully embody their characters. There is little to no set, leaving space for your imagination to soar! Actors will carry scripts but may still be staged by the director, with costume pieces, a few hand props and minimal furniture.”

The “Romance and Juliet” shows are set for Friday (Feb. 14) at 7:30 p.m., Saturday (Feb. 15) at 7 p.m. and Sunday (Feb. 16) at 2 p.m. in the SPARC Studio at 2172 Railroad Ave. in downtown Livermore and a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. at the Front Row Theater at 17011 Bollinger Canyon Road in San Ramon.
