Another 680 closure
Caltrans is shutting down a portion of southbound Interstate 680 between Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon and the I-580/I-680 connector in Dublin and Pleasanton this weekend, the second partial closure in the area this month to accommodate longer work hours on the ongoing freeway project.

The three right lanes of southbound I-680 in the area will be blocked off from 9 p.m. Friday (Oct. 18) through 4 a.m. Monday (Oct. 21). Although the two left lanes will remain open, Caltrans urges motorists to consider alternative routes and plan for delays.
“During the closures, the contractor will replace a portion of the existing deteriorated roadway with new pavement on southbound I-680,” Caltrans said. “Each weekend closure will accomplish the amount of work that otherwise would require an estimated 40 nighttime closures.”
The scheduled work is weather permitting, but the forecast for the weekend was clear as of press time.

Mental health forum
The Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance next week is hosting a half-day forum in Pleasanton focused on critical mental health issues in the community.
“Mental Health Matters” will feature a panel discussion and keynote presentations on topics and services applicable to youth, seniors, military veterans, unhoused people, and residents impacted by substance use and the criminal justice system, organizers said.
“‘Mental Health Matters’ aims to foster collaboration and drive positive change in mental health services within the community,” TVNPA reps said. “With mental health challenges rising across all populations, this forum will be an essential platform for discussing solutions, sharing expertise and enhancing service delivery in the Tri-Valley region.”
The forum is set for 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Rosewood Commons Conference Center in Pleasanton. The event is free but space is limited; go to tvnpa.org to learn more.
High turnout at Fire Safety Expo
The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department saw one of its best turnouts yet at its annual Fire Safety Expo, held on Oct. 5 at the LPFD Training Tower on Busch Road.

The event was presented in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week, with a theme this year of “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You!”
“There was a great turnout with over 1,800 community members who came out for the morning,” LPFD battalion chief Matt Thau said. “We had activities for the entire family and fire department demonstrations to include vehicle extrication, rooftop rescue and vertical ventilation.”
“Both Livermore and Pleasanton Police Departments came out and K-9 demonstrations were given twice throughout the morning. The Livermore-Pleasanton Firefighters Foundation served pancakes and sausages, and a great time was had by all,” Thau added.
