A motorcyclist died after crashing and being struck by a truck on Interstate 580 in Livermore on Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The situation unfolded around 9 a.m. Thursday (April 18) when the rider of an Indian motorcycle failed to slow for traffic conditions ahead and hit the back of a Mercedes SUV on westbound I-580 west of the North Livermore Avenue exit, according to the CHP.
The force of the collision threw the man from the No. 2 lane into the No. 4 lane, where he was struck by a big-rig with a trailer, according to the CHP. A second big-rig then ran over the motorcycle.
A fifth vehicle was also involved in the collision, and all drivers stopped at the scene, according to the CHP.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation. It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were factors, according to the CHP. Multiple lanes of the freeway were closed for more than two hours on Thursday morning.
