NEWS RELEASE
THE CITY OF LIVERMORE
*************************

The City of Livermore is excited to launch the campaign for the Livermore Cultural Arts Vision. This citywide, multi-phase project will lead to the City's cultural arts plan for the coming decade.

From October to December 2021, the City of Livermore is asking community members who live, work, play, and visit the region to share their feedback and ideas for how they envision the future of arts and culture in Livermore.

Community members can fill out surveys, participate in community engagement pop-ups, and identify cultural art opportunities and specific locations on an interactive community map. At the beginning of 2021, the City of Livermore began the process of updating the arts vision with the goal of creating more opportunities and investments for public art and programs that reflect the innovative spirit, rich history, and diverse communities that make Livermore unique.

The City’s 2007 ArtsAlive! plan resulted in the creation of a downtown arts district, Art in Public Places program, and the construction of the Bankhead Theatre.

Livermore’s arts efforts are led by the Livermore Commission for the Arts under the direction of the Office of Innovation and Economic Development. The City of Livermore is working with public art consultant, Art Builds Community, to explore locations where arts and cultural services can thrive. The planning process includes community-based participation, both virtual and in-person.

From home, community members can pin their feedback and ideas to specific locations on an interactive map [https://courb.co/livermoreculturalartsvision]. The planning process also includes conventional interviews, focus groups, surveys, and a Livermore Cultural Arts Vision Community Outreach Tour at communal gathering spaces and community events.

The art-based community engagement pop-ups are co-facilitated by Art Builds Community and Livermore Poet Laureate Cynthia Patton, the project’s commissioned community outreach artist. Cynthia Patton will be facilitating a poetry writing activity where participants' lines of poetry will be transformed into wearable paper beads that reflect their “Hidden Heart” that holds hopes for the arts and culture in Livermore.

Some questions that guide the research during the planning process include:

• What programming or installations contribute to civic pride, placemaking, and economic development?

• What cultural art opportunities and in which areas in Livermore should the City invest?

• How can the City encourage local art production and professional artists?

• What are potential sources of funding for the arts?

• How can programming and collaboration happen within the Tri-Valley and Northern California?
