Participants in the Pace for Peace run and walk are invited to bring children of all ages, including those in strollers, as well as pets.

Tri-Valley Haven's Pace for Peace is now open for registration, with the upcoming event aimed at recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October and raising funds and awareness to support survivors of domestic violence.

The walk/run set for next month in Livermore is in its 26th year, with participants having their choice of a 5K or 10K route -- both of which are stroller-friendly and pet-friendly, according to organizers.

"Our Pace for Peace offers participants the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of survivors of domestic violence," event organizers said in an announcement last week. "By registering for this event, you are not only engaging in a healthy and fun activity, but you are also contributing directly to our programs that provide critical support and resources to those affected by domestic violence in our community."

The walk/run has been among the most prominent awareness-raising efforts for Tri-Valley Haven, which was established in 1977 with the aim of offering support services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and homelessness.

"Domestic violence affects individuals from all backgrounds, regardless of age, gender or socioeconomic status," event organizers said. "Tri-Valley Haven's mission is to provide a safe haven for survivors, offering comprehensive services such as emergency shelter, counseling, legal support and transitional housing."

Funds raised from the annual Pace for Peace are used to support these services and the overall mission of Tri-Valley Haven, with the event also being aimed at raising awareness and understanding of domestic and sexual violence.

This year's event is set to start Oct. 7 at 8 a.m., with both the 5K and 10K routes beginning and finishing at Tri-Valley Haven's Community Building at 3633 Pacific Ave. in Livermore. Registration is available in advance at trivalleyhaven.org/pace-for-peace, and in-person on race day starting at 7 a.m.
